Hyon Chol Hae (13 August 1934 – 19 May 2022) was a North Korean military officer. Hyon Chol Hae studied in Pyongyang and in Romania. Hyon Chol Hae was also the uncle of Hyon Song Il, a North Korean defector, who became a member of the board of the Hana Foundation in South Korean. Hyon Chol Hae passed probably away from complications associated with the COVID-19 Pandemic.
According to the North Korean daily newspaper Rodong Sinmun:
Hyon Chol Hae had fully displayed matchless heroism and self-sacrificing spirit in the struggle to devotedly defend President Kim Il Sung for the past decades from the glorious days of his service in the bodyguard company during the grim Fatherland Liberation War and dedicated himself to the sacred cause of strengthening the People’s Army into the revolutionary armed forces faithful only to the leader’s guidance while acting as a close aide to Chairman Kim Jong Il pursuing the Songun revolutionary leadership during the Arduous march, the forced march, Kim Jong Un said that his death is a great loss to our Party, army and people, that can be compensated with nothing.
