I’m pleased to announce the publication of my 5th book entitled “Korea Północna: zarys ewolucji systemu politycznego” (North Korea: an analysis of the evolution of the political system) devoted to the North Korean leadership. This monograph is also analyzing last changes which took place within North Korean political institutions.

North Korean citizens are completely isolated from the outside world; nevertheless, they are exposed to an increasing influx of external information since the 90’s. It was due to a decreasing economic situation which forced North Korean citizens to travel inside and outside of the country for economical purposes. In the same time opportunities for citizens to access to foreign and internal information highly increased.

Second Day of the WPK Congress

Accordingt to the North Korean Workers’ Journal, Rodong Sinmun,  “The second-day sitting of the Seventh Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) took place on Saturday”. Basically no important annoucements were made.

Kim Jong Un, first secretary of the WPK, continued his report on the work of the Party Central Committee.

According to KCNA, the North Korean News Agency, “The Seventh Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) opened here with splendor Friday. Kim Jong Un, first secretary of the WPK, was present there.

Thoughts about the 7th Congress of the WPK

Since its establishment in 1948, North Korea has been effectively controlled by the Workers’ Party of Korea. Starting from the 6th May, the WPK will hold its seventh congress. The WPK congress is a gathering of delegates of the WPK. Exceptionally there will be no delegations from foreign countries (177 delegations from 118 countries were represented on the 6th Congress including Mikhail Gorbatchov,  Robert Mugabe and many others). The frequency of party congress varied during the last 70 years. This congress is the first since October 1980. The first Plenum (meeting) will elect the central party leadership (including members of the Presidium, full and candidate members of the Politburo, Secretariat and PCMC). As of now, the power had been pretty much transferred to Kim Jong-un including military, North-South relations and foreign diplomacy. Continue reading

The WPK Party Congress will open on the 6th May

On the 26th April, , the Workers’ Party of Korea Political Bureau publicized its decision on opening the 7th Party Congress on the 6th May 2016. On 30 October 2015, the Political Bureau of the CC WPK announced that the 7th Congress is to be held in early May 2016. At the difference of previous congress, no foreign guests are attending this event.
